Jonah Hex #84

One of the biggest reasons to grab this issue is the cover.

Instead of a traditional Western shootout, Jonah Hex #84 leans heavily into horror imagery, showing Hex being overwhelmed by an army of skeletons. One skeleton towers over the scene with a raised blade while others attack from below.

The result is a cover that combines two collectible genres — classic Western comics and horror comics — into one memorable image.

The black background makes the skeleton artwork pop and gives the book a darker appearance than many other Jonah Hex covers from the period.

Jonah Hex is one of DC Comics' signature Western characters: a scarred bounty hunter and gunslinger whose adventures often combine traditional Western action with darker and sometimes supernatural elements.

This issue is a great example of what made the original Jonah Hex series unique. It wasn't afraid to move beyond straightforward cowboy stories and incorporate horror, mystery and supernatural imagery.
