Venom #9 (2011)

This series comes from the acclaimed Rick Remender era of Venom, a run that took the symbiote in a different direction with Flash Thompson operating as Agent Venom.

Rather than simply retelling the traditional Eddie Brock/Venom story, this era explored what happens when the Venom symbiote is used as a weapon, mixing superhero action with darker themes and some of Marvel's supernatural side.

Issue #9 is part of the “Circle of Four” buildup, connecting Venom with characters including Ghost Rider, Red Hulk, and X-23 as the series moves toward a major supernatural confrontation.

Killer Venom Cover

The cover is easily one of the biggest attractions here. Venom's face fills nearly the entire cover, emphasizing the character's huge eyes and rows of sharp teeth against a nearly black background.

It's simple, dark, intimidating, and instantly recognizable — exactly the type of Venom artwork that looks great displayed in a collection.
